アドベント　待降節

【アドベント】

　教会暦で、きょうからアドベントに入りました。

アドベントクランツのろうそくに１本火が灯ります。

クリスマスはイエス・キリストの誕生記念日だということは多くの方が知っておられると

思います。クリスマスと言う言葉が一般に定着しているように、アドベントという言葉も

定着しつつあります。が、そのまことの意味は知らない方が多いと思います。

11月30日に近い日曜日から24日のクリスマスイブまでをアドベントと言います。基本的にはクリスマスの4週間前の日曜日から始まります。日本語だと「たいこうせつ」と言います。漢字で書くと「待降節」と書きます。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

アドベントという単語は「到来」を意味するラテン語Adventus（＝アドベントゥス）から来ています。「キリストの到来」のことである。ギリシア語の「エピファネイア（顕現）」と同義で、キリスト教においては、アドベントは人間世界へのキリスト（メシア）の到来、そして、キリストの再臨（ギリシア語のパルーシアに相当）を表現する語として用いられます。

Advent

According to the church calendar, we have entered Advent from today and one Advent candle is lit.  Many people know that Christmas is the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ.  Just like the word, Christmas, the word, Advent, is also used commonly.

However, I think many people do not know the true meaning of this word, Advent.  Advent period is from the nearest Sunday to November 30th to Christmas Eve (December 24^th) and starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.  In Japanese, it is called "Taikosetsu" (待降節). 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

The word Advent comes from Latin, Adventus, meaning "coming." It means "the coming of Christ." This is synonymous with the Greek word, epiphaneia, (manifestation).  Advent is a word used in Christianity to express the coming of Christ (Messiah) to mankind and the second coming of Christ (equivalent to the Greek word, parousia).
